Traffic on a Dubai road at dusk

From Tuesday 13 October 2026, the speed limit on the Fujairah–Khorfakkan Road drops from 120 km/h to 100 km/h. Fujairah Police General Headquarters announced the change on 11 October, in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, saying it is meant to improve safety for everyone using the road. If you drive between Fujairah and Khorfakkan for work, weekend trips or the east-coast beaches, set your mental speed limit 20 km/h lower from Tuesday.

What drivers should do

  • Watch the signs from Tuesday. The posted limit is what counts, not what your navigation app showed last week. Map apps can take time to update.
  • Do not rely on a buffer. Neither announcement mentioned a radar tolerance above the new limit, so treat 100 km/h as the maximum.
  • Allow a little more time. On a stretch you used to drive at 120 km/h, the lower limit adds a few minutes to the trip.
  • Know the penalties. Speeding fines and black points are applied under the federal traffic law. Our guide to UAE traffic fines and black points explains how they work.

The police announcements did not mention new fine amounts for this road; the usual speeding rules apply. Fog season also brings temporary lower limits on some roads in the mornings: see how the 80 km/h fog limits work.
