Short answer: from Sunday 1 November 2026, speed limits change on parts of five Dubai roads. Three go up: Al Asayel Street to 80 km/h, and Al Mustaqbal Street and Latifa bint Hamdan Street to 70 km/h. Two come down: Al Rebat Street to 90 km/h and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street to 70 km/h. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is making the changes in coordination with Dubai Police, and will replace the signs and reprogramme the speed cameras on the affected sections.
The five roads, section by section
| Road | Section affected | Limit now | From 1 Nov 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Al Asayel Street | Oud Metha Street to Al Meydan Street | 60 km/h | 80 km/h (up) |
| Al Mustaqbal Street | Sheikh Rashid Street to Al Meydan Street | 60 km/h | 70 km/h (up) |
| Latifa bint Hamdan Street | Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road | 60 km/h | 70 km/h (up) |
| Al Rebat Street | Marrakech Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road | 100 km/h | 90 km/h (down) |
| Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street | 2nd December Street to Khalid bin Al Waleed Street | 80 km/h | 70 km/h (down) |
Only the sections listed change. The rest of each road keeps its current limit, so watch the signs where a section begins and ends.
Why the limits are changing
According to Gulf News, the changes come from 2026 updates to the Dubai Speed Management Manual, which followed an engineering study with an international consultant. The stated aims are smoother traffic, road safety and limits that match how each road is built and used. The National reports that the changes form part of the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy.
If you drive these roads: three things to note
- The two reductions matter most. On Al Rebat Street and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street, a speed that is legal today will be 10 km/h over the limit from 1 November, and the cameras are being reprogrammed to match. Reductions apply in both directions.
- Go by the sign, not by memory or an old map. Navigation apps can take time to update. The posted sign is what counts.
- Higher limits are a maximum, not a target. Drive to the conditions, especially during the morning fog season.
Fines and black points for speeding are set by federal traffic law. Our UAE traffic fines and black points guide explains what applies. Earlier this month Fujairah also cut a limit: see Fujairah–Khorfakkan Road speed limit drops to 100 km/h. For the running cost of a daily drive, including Salik, see our commute cost comparison.
